Writing in His Service

Last Wednesday I attended a two-hour class for Christian writers.  While the teacher did seem to know her material, I was disturbed at her frequent references to seeing one’s name in print.  She seemed to think the goal of Christian writing was to give glory to oneself, and not to God.  For she never once mentioned the real reason for being a writer: to be God’s light to the world.   Let me tell you this, we as Christians are not in service to ourselves.  We are servants and friends of the King.  We are His children, His beloved.  We are here because of him, not because of anything we have done.

I know I do not deserve to be where I am.  To be frank, if I could have chosen my gift, it would not have been poetry.  It does not pay, and many people do not enjoy reading it.  But the choice was never mine.  For a reason I may never know, God chose to give me the gift of being His voice through meter and rhyme, and I have come to love it.  Someday I hope to expand my poetic ministry into devotionals and speaking as well, for He has given me the desire to want to share what I know His heart to be with those around me.

However, by being obedient and listening to His voice, he has used the words spoken through me thus far to move hearts and to help people see things from a different point of view.  I have had to learn to trust Him, even when I do not see the way He is going to take me.  Sometimes answering His call has felt like falling blindly through the air, hurtling toward the rocks below, but He has caught me every single time like a superb trapeze artist in the circus.

Thus, I am taking the next step in my calling by opening up this web page in order that more people may come to know what He has been doing through my writing.  The theme is a lighthouse for that is what He has called me to be, a light on a hill for those who need direction.  I hope you take as much enjoyment looking through the pages as I have had creating them.  If you could, please sign the guest book with your name and any comments you may have.  I would love feedback.  God bless you and keep you and may His face shine brightly upon you and be gracious unto you.

Poem

          Cherries

Abba knowing you is like

Enjoying a large ice-cream sundae with

Nuts, whipped cream, chocolate

Fudge, and brightly colored

Sprinkles on a warm blue-sky day.

Your blessing is like

The bright red cherry on top.

My Father, I want to thank you

For the cherries on my sundae for

You have given me so many they

Are cascading over the sides

Of my sundae and falling

Into the sundaes of others.

Grant that I may always be a cherry

On other people’s sundaes and

That when they see my sundae,

They will think of you.
